Divining - It usually takes only a little practise to get in tune with a new pendulum. First simply hold the pendulum string lightly between your thumb and forefinger, and keep your hand steady. You may close your eyes (briefly). Ask a question that you already know the answer is yes to. Observe how the pendulum responds to a yes answer. Do the same with a question where the answer is no and observe how the pendulum indicates a no answer. Once you are able to tune into your pendulum well enough to provide consistent reponses to known questions you can move to asking questions where the outcome is unknown and rely upon the pendulum to give you a yes/no response.
Dowsing - Pendulums can be used to detect water, energy and ley lines both by being in the actual location and also via maps, drawings, photographs etc. One method for finding lost objects is to draw a plan of the building or area and ask your pendulum to indicate where the object is. It will usually indicate with a different swing when it is in the right location.
